Grape and Kale Green Smoothie

by thebikinibakery

Fall is officially here. Somehow the summer flew by. Grapes are at their peak, though. They’re great for smoothies and add a lot of flavor. You can use any grape that you want. Green, red and I’ve even made this smoothie with cotton candy grapes! Super delish!

The blueberries are added strictly for nutritional purposes. They don’t really impart a lot of fruity flavor. We would need to add a lot of them to get enough flavor and they’re not exactly cheap. This is why grapes are a perfect addition.

Notes About Ingredients

Grapes – High in vitamin C and potassium. Grape skins are full of antioxidants, specifically resveratrol, which helps protect the body’s cells from damage.

Blueberries – Full of phytochemicals, including antioxidants, which help neutralize free radicals. These antioxidants are also strong inflammation fighters and linked to having a positive effect on brain health.

Kale – High in fiber, vitamin C, K and Beta-Carotene. Dark leafy green vegetable that is rich in antioxidants.

Celery – Good for your gut biome, high in vitamin K and fiber, and very low in calories. No need to take the leaves off the celery when using. You can throw those into the blender too!

Ingredients

  • Kale - 2 cups
  • Grapes - 1 cup (green, red, or cotton candy)
  • Blueberries - 1/2 cup
  • Celery - 1 stalk
  • Chia Seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Ice Cubes - 4-7 cubes

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients except for the chia seeds and blend until smooth, about 1 minute.
  2. Turn the blender to low and add the chia seeds.  Turn the blender higher for 20 seconds.  Adding the chia seeds last while the blender is running prevents them from sticking to the sides of the blender.  Enjoy!
